Shernaz Patel, Rahul da Cunha and Rajit Kapur came together in 1993 to form the theatre group Rage. Initially they tried to make plays that send a powerful message, without being bothered about the box office value. But later, they realized that plays need to do well at the box office too if they wanted to be in business for a long time to come.

Their first major play was ‘I’m not Bajirao’ based on Herb Gardner’s comedy ‘I’m not Rappaport’. It featured Boman Irani and Sudhir Joshi in conversation on a park bench in a posh locality. This was a great hit. Then the trio tried their hand at a musical in 2000 with an adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’. Class of ’84 came in 2002, followed by ‘Pune Highway’, and ‘Me, Kash and Cruise’.

Most of the shows have been staged a number of times and Rage is today known the world over in countries like Singapore, Sri Lanka, Oman, Malaysia, Dubai, Germany, Holland and Belgium.
