Usha Ganguli led Rangakarmee’s journey began in the year 1976 with the challenge to curve out a position for itself within the rich cultural heritage of Bengal and also as a newborn group using a language as its medium, with which the Bengali cultural circle was not much at ease. To break all the barriers and reach out to the audience of not only Bengal but the whole of India and in countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, Germany and USA.

Now having successfully completed 36 prosperous years in Indian theatre with more than 36 productions and numerous prestigious awards to its credit, Rangakarmee has started an ambitious project, RABINDRA RANG YATRA, in which keeping with its tradition of bringing to the forefront social issues – it aims at adapting and presenting Rabindranath Tagore’s works by moulding it in accordance with the contemporary social scenario and in the process produces something new and different from the original source.

Some of the famous plays by Rangakarmee include Mahabhoj (1984), Lok-katha (1987), Holi (1989), Vama (1990), Court Martial (1991), Rudali (1992),Khoj (1994), Beti Ayee (1996), Maiyyat (1997), Himmat Mai (1998), Inspector Matadin Chand Par (1999), Mukti (1999), Shobhayatra (2001), Antar-yatra (2002),Kashinama (2003), Badnam Manto (2004), and many more.
